On March 18th the Belize District Chess Association held their qualifying tournament for Olympiad places.
There were over 40 players from 6 years up to 17 years and they all had a great time. Amazingly in the first round the longest games were in the youngest section. The games were hard fought but played with the usual respect that we get from our young chess players.

Special T shirts were awarded to those who demonstrated great sportsmanship during the day.
Congratulations to Dwayne Rodriguez for winning the 13 and over section, more results and photos to follow over the next day or two. David Martinez did a great job of organising the event and thanks to tournament directors, Mr. Glen Reneau, Mr, Santos Carbahal and Major Charlton Roches also Amani Coombs who was Computer Director.
Thanks also to the parents who helped before the tournament and during the day to organise and serve food.
